Beginning her public accounting career in 2002 working at a Big 4 accounting firm and then for a global consulting company, Asha offers a wealth of experience — including working with some of the largest U.S. public and private Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), asset managers, private equity funds, real estate companies, pension funds, sovereign funds and other global funds. Asha primarily focuses on real estate and tax consulting, and has extensive expertise in transaction advisory and international tax consulting and compliance. Recognized as an expert in REITs and transaction tax, she is adept at helping clients identify value-added opportunities and navigate sophisticated tax issues throughout the lifecycle of the investment.
Additionally, Asha offers tax planning guidance in a wide range of complex areas, including fund structuring, Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA) and cross-border structuring. She also advises clients on REIT qualifications and conversions, partnership tax and general tax matters. She has broad experience with real estate acquisition and disposition transactions, advising real estate funds and other joint venture entities on efficient tax structuring and planning. Asha has played a key role in various due diligence, M&A and other structuring assignments worth billions of dollars in connection with U.S. domestic and cross-border transactions. She also has expertise in advising clients on IPO readiness and international tax issues involving cross-border transactions, including Passive Foreign Investment Company (PFIC) analysis, Section 987 computations, earnings and profits studies, and the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act. Additionally, Asha works with foreign hedge funds, venture capital funds and debt funds, assisting them with U.S. tax consulting and compliance.
Asha lives in Livingston, New Jersey, with her husband and two kids. She enjoys long distance running and has completed a few marathons — including the New York City Marathon — and has run various half marathons. Asha also enjoys listening to music, dancing, watching cricket/soccer games and canvas painting.
